Positional distribution of octadecanienoic acids in sponge phosphatidylethanolamines

Emiliano Sosa, Anastacio

There is a little information available on the positional distribution of fatty acids (FA) in the phospholipids of the marine organisms (1). Howerer, some interesting species differences in the distribution of individual phospholipid FA have been reported. For example, docosahexaenoic acid has been shown to exclusively occupy the sn-2 position in the phospholipid from whale and lobster (1).
